rubyw.exe – What it is, Uses, How to Fix Error

Windows Ruby interpreter that is needed to run the popular VPN service Private Internet Access (PIA). Rubyw.exe is the executable file of this program. The function of this program is to monitor the outgoing networks and attempt to establish connection with other Internet servers when the VPN connection to PIA is initiated. This process is important to check the availability, reliability and speed of the available connections. This is done to find out the most suitable server that is available in the region that you want to connect to.

What is rubyw.exe?

The Ruby.exe is a free is an open source free application which was created by Yukihiro Matsumoto in 1995. It is basically used for the the Private Internet Access and uses port to run smoothly.  Please note that, it’s not a virus or malware.

Why is Rubyw.exe giving errors?

However, Rubyw.exe is not a core file that is needed for the smooth working of your system, there could be some errors that can occur due to this program in your system. These errors happen if the executable file of the program is either not available or damaged. It can happen that the file Rubyw.exe is accidentally deleted from the system or it has been over-written after an update that has not been installed properly.

File Location

Usually the rubyw.exe file is located under ‘C:\Windows’ directory. While sometime it might be located under Temp folder.  Follow this simple process to open Temporary directory; Win+R button, type %temp%.

How to fix Rubyw.exe error?

Once your system is clear but you are still getting the error, follow these methods to fix it:

Method 1: Re-register rubyw.exe

  • Press WIN+R keys and type cmd to open Command Prompt
  • Type regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\example.dll in the window and hit Enter

Note: here you will have to rename ‘example.dll’.

This will update your registry and you will get a message that the files have been registered.

Method 2: Run SFC /scannow to repair system files

  • Press WIN+R keys and type cmd to open Command Prompt
  • Type sfc /scannow in the command prompt window and hit Enter

System File Checker will now scan and replace all corrupted or missing files and fix Rubyw.exe error.

Method 3

Another way is to uninstall these 2 software (InstallVC90Support or Cisco WebEx Meetings) from your computer using Control Panel >> Uninstall a Program.

If you are still getting the error after performing these steps, it is advisable to consult an expert who can make the necessary modifications to the registry settings manually to fix the error permanently.
